"Once I had trained my mind to see things through this map, life became a lot simpler and problems got short. Not gone, short. You have to try it to see it."
The map came out of a search I did not choose: after an autoimmune diagnosis in 2022 I went looking for a happiness that does not leave when the news is bad. What I found became The Return of Attention, and this blog.
Everything on this blog comes from one map. It sorts every moment of attention by when it is about, past, present or future, and how it feels about it, liking, disliking or neutral. Nine positions. Eight of them pull you away; only one, Present + Neutral (presence), costs nothing. If you read only four things here, read these, in this order.
- The map. The nine attention states. What the positions are, with an example of each, and why only one of them is quiet. For the full method, read how the matrix works.
- Your pattern. Pick the hub that sounds like your day: Overthinking, Anxiety and stress or Happiness. Each one places a familiar problem on the map and gives you the posts in reading order.
Not sure which hub? Find your experience on the map. - The practice. Present + Neutral: the one position that costs nothing. One question, asked anywhere: where is my attention right now?
- See it in your own mind. The free mind score takes about 13 minutes and shows where your attention tends to sit. After that, Ayu is there to talk it through.
The book behind all of it is The Return of Attention, by A.C. Amarasinghe. On Saturdays, The Week on the PAHM places the week's headlines on the same map.
